Yesterday, Estonian Defence minister Kalle Laanet met with General André Lanata, Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (SACT) to discuss the adoption of emerging and disruptive technologies within NATO. Defence Minister Laanet emphasised, that Estonia is ready to offer its Cyber Range to NATO allies to test and develop new capabilities.
"In order to maintain the strength of NATO's posture of deterrence and defence in the future, we need to account for new technological developments in our capability development and exploit them to the fullest. The Estonian Cyber Range offers the necessary environment to test many of the new capabilities," said defence minister Laanet.
Threats posed by Russia to the region were also discussed at the meeting.
Defence Minister Laanet added that new capabilities should be founded on strong cybersecurity, as solutions like autonomous systems and AI are increasingly data-intensive.
NATO Supreme Allied Transformation is responsible for analyzing what the future warfare and battlefield will look like and develop the necessary doctrines and development plans to ensure NATO is ready to respond to future challenges.
