Minister of Defence Kalle Laanet presented medals to Estonian servicemen who had served in international military operations and missions.

At the medal ceremony, Minister of Defence Kalle Laanet said that the Estonian state and our Allies highly value the contribution of servicemen on foreign missions.

‘It is our duty to ensure international security, and we are also doing so in our own interests. Your contribution has fulfilled Estonia’s most important goal, to strengthen co-operation with our most important Allies, thereby securing Estonia’s security,’ said Minister of Defence Laanet.

The Minister pointed out that Estonia has focused on the training and education of local forces, where co-operation with local forces and taking into account their wishes plays an important role.

‘The Defence Forces offers convincing proof that it is able to operate very effectively in distant lands and under conditions involving very complex logistics. Your exemplary service has become a trade mark of quality in its own right,’ the Minister of Defence added.

Finally, Laanet thanked the family members and relatives of the servicemen who supported them and waited for them to return home.

Medals were presented to nearly sixty members of the Defence Forces, who served in Mali (Operation Barkhane), Afghanistan (Resolute Support Mission), Lebanon (UN peacekeeping mission UNTSO), Iraq (NATO Mission Iraq) and Italy (EUNARFOR MED).
