The Estonian Minister of Defence Sven Mikser delivered a speech at the international conference in the National Library today. The minister’s speech in the panel “Europe facing new global security challenges” at the conference “Estonia and the European Union: Estonia on its way to the changing Europe” concentrated on the rapid changes in the world security and on the problems in that connection.

The EU-related international conference in Tallinn is divided into topical panels , the spokesmen come from Estonia as well as other European countries, representing the states’ parliamentary commissions. Following the speeches, discussions in smaller workgroups are conducted. The main accent of the conference is on Estonia’s role in the process of joining the European Union and the concurrent manifestations. Among the topics on the three-day seminar are “Estonia as member of EU”, “Identity via integration: Estonia’s preferences in the changing Europe”, “Parliamentary control”, “Democratization and simplification” and “Sharing competence between the European Parliament and the national parliament”.
