PRESS RELEASE no 99 Estonia and Slovakia to hold defence negotiations

Tomorrow, on October 23 the delegations of the Estonian and Slovakian Ministry of Defence will start political military talks in Tallinn. During the meeting the delegations will discuss NATO enlargement issues, analyze Estonian-Slovakian defence relations

Tomorrow, on October 23 the delegations of the Estonian and Slovakian Ministry of Defence will start political military talks in Tallinn. During the meeting the delegations will discuss NATO enlargement issues, analyze Estonian-Slovakian defence relations and Baltic co-operation.

The Estonian delegation will give an overview of the Membership Action Plan, their new Annual National Plan and share experience on the restructuring process in the Estonian Defence Forces. Also European security and defence policy issues and the present state in the fight against international terrorism will be discussed.

On Friday the Slovakian delegation will visit the General Staff of EDF , the Guards battalion and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The work of the Estonian delegation is led by the Ministry’s Deputy Secretary General of Defence Policy, Margus Kolga.

Estonia and Slovakia signed the Bilateral Co-operation Agreement in the September of 2001 during the visit of Slovakian Minister of Defence Josef Stank.

Starting from October 16, 2002 Slovakia’s new Minister of Defence is Ivan Shimko.
