United States Military units in Estonia

United States forces have been rotated in Estonia periodically since 2017.

After the Russian Federation’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the United States decided at the NATO Madrid Summit to increase its existing military presence in the Baltic states, including Estonia, in order to ensure the deterrence capability of both the Baltic states and NATO’s eastern flank against possible aggression.

Today, one US armored infantry battalion, together with a tank company, is stationed in Estonia. US soldiers serve in Estonia on the basis of a bilateral agreement and within a rotational presence, with locations in Tapa and Reedo near Võru.

Estonia’s training areas and its various weather conditions provide rotating US units with diverse and unique training opportunities, ensuring a high level of combat readiness for US units also in their subsequent service outside Estonia.
