The Reserve Forces Fund was established through cooperation between the Ministry of Defence and the National Defence Promotion Foundation to provide an additional way for individuals and businesses in Estonia to support the core of Estonia’s national defence — our reservists — and thereby strengthen the country’s defence capabilities. The memorandum of cooperation was signed on 19 April 2024 by the Minister of Defence, Hanno Pevkur, and the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the National Defence Promotion Foundation, Toomas Luman.
Through the Fund, the combat readiness of reservists is supported through the following activities:
- supporting the training of reservists, enabling them to enhance their knowledge and skills through officer and specialist courses (including through scholarships);
- procuring additional specialised equipment for reservists to complement existing equipment (including, for example, equipment at unit level such as drones);
- recognising the Reservist of the Year and the Reserve Unit of the Year at the anniversary of the Estonian Defence Forces, in a manner similar to the recognition of the Officer of the Year and Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year.
The funds are administered by the National Defence Promotion Foundation and are allocated in accordance with proposals from the Ministry of Defence, taking into account the input and needs of the Estonian Defence Forces, the Estonian Defence League, the Defence Resources Agency, and the Estonian Centre for Defence Investments.
